MarburgAfter a construction period of ten months, the employees of DRG Instruments GmbH in Marburg recently moved into the new premises.  An additional 730 square meters are now available to the company in the 4.5 million Euro four-story addition, including a large roof garden.

The new building, which is directly connected to the existing company offices, became necessary as DRG will not only produce ELISAs, which are an immunological detection method based on an enzymatic color reaction, and with their help antigens or antibodies in the blood can be determined.  “We  plan to produce accessories for a newly developed analyzer”, said the Managing Director, Wilhelm Saenger during the Grand Opening.  This new laboratory equipment offers for the first time, according to Saenger, the possibility to simultaneously process immunoassays and clinical-chemistry parameters from patient’s specimen – a world novelty (Oberhessische Presse reported previously).  Approximately 3,000 of these instruments are expected to be marketed during the first five years.  The cartridges, i.e. plug-in modules for the specimen, will be manufactured in the German subsidiary of DRG Instruments in Marburg.  In order to manufacture these in an efficient manner, the addition was warranted, which the Marburger Lord Mayor Egon Vaupel described as an “architectural highlight” during his welcoming speech for the dedication.

The president of DRG International USA, Dr. Cyril Geacintov, was pleased that the construction of the annex has now been completed and therewith the future of the location is secured.  “I have been asked numerous times why we are located in Marburg.  I now have the answer:  because I always wanted an office with a view of a castle”, he said, laughing.  The name Marburg is worldwide known in the trade, and customers all over the world recognize the quality and reliability of products “Made in Marburg”.

DRG Instruments GmbH in Marburg is a subsidiary of DRG International, Inc., located in the USA.  The group of companies was founded by Dr. Cyril Geacintov in 1973 and specializes in the manufacturing and marketing of diagnostics as well as medical equipment.  The products are marketed through a network of subsidiaries and distributors in more than 110 countries.  The Marburg subsidiary with 45 employees is the largest in the world, according to the company.  A total of 120 people work for DRG.
